Nice little 'day in the life of' John Lasseter

It's from last year but still a nice little insight into a regular day for John Lasseter.

First Look at Dreamworks' "Me and My Shadow"

Really excited about this one, from what I hear, this is going to be a beautiful 2D/3D mash-up!

When recently asked about traditional hand drawn animation, DreamWorks Animation Chief Creative Officer Bill Damaschke spoke about the hybrid animation in "Me and My Shadow".

He stated, "Me and My Shadow, which is out in spring of 2014, is a combination of CG and traditional hand drawn animation. There is a reason to tell the story in that fashion. It's about what would happen if your shadow, that has been following you around and basically just follows what you do your whole life, just stood up and took over. The shadows will be animated hand drawn, and the other characters will be CG animated. There is a reason to do it [hand drawn animation] that felt creatively interesting."

Nice insight into the making of 'Snow White and the huntsman'

There were a lot of mixed reviews for this film.  I personally enjoyed it! Most of all for the visual effects.
As far as I know, BlueBolt were responsible for the castle and village and environment extensions surrounding after the VFX supervisors (Cedric Nicolas-Troyan and Phil Brennan) visited their London site and saw their work for Game of Thrones season 1.
The Mill were responsible for the opening title sequence; Pixomondo were responsible for the prologue battle and the assault on the castle at the end of the movie; Nvizage for the previsualization; Rhythm & Hues completed the Troll sequence and Dneg were responsible for the dark forest and all it's creatures and the dark fairies (probably my favourite visuals in the film is when the queen appears and dissapears from clouds of these).

Check out these great in-depth interviews and breakdowns for the film:

25 Stunning Game Character Designs and Fantasy Digital Art works by Hong Yu-Cheng

Webneel have posted these gorgeous works by digital artist Hong Yu-Cheng.
These images are MMO RPG game projects but there's also personal illustrations in there as well.
I am a huge fan of game art and love the colours he's used for these, but my favourite aspect are the weapons designs.
Nice bit of inspiration for me and hopefully a feast for the eyes for anyone else who follows the link below:

Sony Imageworks' talks posing The Amazing Spiderman!

This is a nice sequence from Sony Pictures Imageworks on posing Spiderman in the same iconic poses used in the comic books and original animated series.  Nice to see him portrayed as moving more on instinct.  I especially love the crawl landing motif around 0:40seconds.

Posters from the films that I've worked on..

And am pretty proud so far :)

An Introduction...

Ahh a fresh new blog!

Where to begin?  After graduating from Ravensbourne in 2008 I started off as a runner for The Moving Picture Company, where I went on to become a wrangler and eventually a rotoAnimation artist where I am still working today.

As a RotoAnimation artist I have been responsible for delivering high quality character and object roto-animation for feature films, working closely alongside Matchmove Artists and Animators to create animation that matches the movement of the selected character / object on the film backplates and that also moves realistically in 3D space.

Whilst I enjoy the challanges of rotoAnimation, I've always loved animation and in my spare time am pursuing my goal to become a character animator.
On this blog I aim to post updates on personal work, work from other artists that inspire me, and news from the CG and animation world that has caught my interest.

Thanks for reading.
